As overall head of Star Trek production, Berman served as executive producer for the series's entire run. Piller initially served as second executive producer and showrunner, but left the series in 1. Star Trek Voyager. Writer Ira Steven Behr was promoted by Berman to replace Piller as showrunner and held that role for the remainder of the series. Threats come not only from Cardassians, Klingons, and Romulans from the Alpha Quadrant, but from the Dominion, an alliance of alien species from the Gamma Quadrant that take up arms alongside the Cardassians against the Federation and its allies. Deep Space Nine becomes a key military base for the Federation in the Dominion War, and is assigned the starship. USS Defiant to aid in its protection.

According to co- creator Berman, he and Piller considered setting the new series on a colony planet, but they felt a space station would appeal more to viewers, and would save the money required for a land- based show's on- location shooting. Star Trek: Deep Space Nine: Writers Reassemble & Conceive a New Episode - canceled TV shows. Star Trek fans are in for a treat. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the creative team behind Deep Space Nine has reconvened for a new documentary. Part of the long- running sci- fi franchise, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine starred Avery Brooks, Nana Visitor, Ren. The syndicated series ran for seven seasons before ending in 1. After nearly two decades, the writers from the original Deep Space Nine have come back together and conceived a new episode for a possible season eight. The idea for the episode will be featured in the documentary What We Left Behind: Looking Back at Star Trek Deep Space Nine, which you can help fund on Indiegogo.

Deep Space Nine showrunner Ira Steven Behr spoke to THR about the writer’s room reunion and the new episode: There were ground rules, which was everyone had to watch the final episode of season seven, so everyone remembered where everyone was on the playing field, or at least read the Wikipedia page. We weren’t going to have any cheat sheets. We are going in there with nothing for one day to see if we could get through a pilot episode of the show. Obviously, as with any show, you don’t break a show in a day — and if you do, you still go back the next day and refine. This is the raw material, but it’s a fascinating process. We had a fantastic time doing it. It was amazing how time slipped away and everyone was back doing their thing and interacting and arguing and getting passionate and it was really a magic day.”Watch a preview of the Deep Space Nine doc below: What do you think?
